Remembering Commissary Sergeant David Andrew Wilson

David Andrew Wilson was born in Owen County on April 13, 1839, the son of Alec Wilson and Eletha Dillender. He was 5’11”, with a light complexion, blue eyes and dark hair. Private Wilson was promoted to commissary sergeant of the Fifteenth Kentucky and transferred to the headquarters staff on February 28, 1863, to fill the vacancy left by the discharge of Sergeant McNeal. He was discharged from the regiment on March 21, 1864, in order that he be free to accept a commission as first lieutenant of the Second Kentucky Heavy Artillery. Wilson died June 9, 1910 in New Albany, Indiana. He appears to have never married.
