Remembering Corporal Charles Sayles, Company A of the Fifteenth Kentucky


Charles Sayles was born in Shelbyville, Kentucky. An eighteen-year-old painter, he was 6’1”, with a light complexion, gray eyes, and light hair. Sayles was promoted to fifth corporal on May 5, 1863. Corporal Sayles was wounded at the Battle of Resaca, May 13, 1864, and died of his wounds the next day. He is buried in the National Cemetery at Chattanooga.
