George Hickman was an eighteen-year-old farmer from Shelby County, Kentucky. Hickman was 5’10”, with a light complexion, blue eyes, and light hair. Hickman was captured and paroled near Simpsonville, Kentucky, on October 30, 1862. He deserted the next day near New Market, Kentucky. Hickman married Margaret Jenkins on December 18, 1866 in Shelby County. They had two children – Walter (1869- ) and Virginia Hickman McDowell (1873-1930).
