Remembering Private John Jakes, Company A of the Fifteenth Kentucky


Private John Jakes was born in Montgomery County, Ohio, and was twenty-eight years old when he enlisted. He was 6’1”, with a dark complexion, hazel eyes, and light hair. Jakes was a farmer. He enlisted on October 3, 1862 in Louisville. Private Jakes was detached to the Pioneer Corps from November 3, 1862 to August 19, 1864, when he deserted at Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
