Remembering Sergeant William E. Truman, Company A of the Fifteenth Kentucky
William E. Truman, a cousin of President Harry S Truman, was born on October 3, 1838 in Shelby County, Kentucky, the son of Jessie Moses Truman and Mary Shepherd. A farmer, he was 5’10”, with fair complexion, blue eyes and sandy hair. He was promoted to sergeant on March 16, 1863. Truman married Lucretia Mull in 1869. He died February 20, 1909 in Terre Haute, Indiana. He and Lucretia had at least one child – their daughter Mary Gertrude Truman (Uffelman).
