Dramatic Reading of The Taming of the Shrew in Pre-Civil War Louisville

From the Louisville Daily Courier, February 4, 1858

Prof. Holyoke’s Last Reading – This accomplished and gifted gentleman and scholar will give the last of his very popular series of Readings at Masonic Temple to—night. He will read “Taming the Shrew,” Willis’ Absolom, and seven humorous and pathetic pieces. We have never had a series of entertainments in Louisville that have afforded more amusement and instruction than Professor Holyoke’s Readings. Every lady and gentleman of intelligence and taste in the city should be all means endeavor to secure a seat to-night in Masonic Temple.
