Julius Caesar in Louisville

From the Louisville Courier-Journal, March 25, 1888

Many people who have seen the tragedy of “Julius Caesar” are wont to consider Marc Antony as a man of wonderful eloquence, who, animated by an almost boundless love for his friend, braved everything to do him honor and avenge his death, and, holding this opinion, looked upon him as a hero. Mr. James E. Murdoch, the veteran actor and reader, who, perhaps has a clearer understanding of Shakespeare’s characters than any other man living, says that Marc Antony was a demagogue and a hypocrite, and cites his matchless oration over the body of Caesar to prove it.
