Remembering Adjutant David Newton Sharp of the Fifteenth Kentucky

David “Newt” Sharp Jr. was born in Shelby County, Kentucky on June 1, 1842, the son of David Newton Sharp and Paulina Glass. A farmer, Sharp was 5’10 ½”, with a light complexion, brown eyes, and dark hair. Sharp was promoted from first sergeant of Company A to adjutant of the Fifteenth Kentucky on April 15, 1863. He married Virginia Angeline McKenney in 1868 and had two daughters, Millie (who died at the age of two) and Emma, who lived until 1948. He died in Richmond, Kentucky, on November 12, 1914, and is buried in Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelby County.
