Remembering Corporal John B. Carrico, Company A of the Fifteenth Kentucky


My cousin Corporal John B. Carrico was born in Spencer County, Kentucky. He was the son of Joseph Butler Carrico and Sarah Jane Dodds. A farmer, Carrico was 5’7”, with a dark complexion, black eyes and dark hair. Corporal Carrico was wounded and captured at the Battle of Stones River. He was paroled by the Confederates on January 2, 1863 and he died in a federal field hospital on January 8. Corporal Carrico is buried in the National Military Cemetery at Murfreesboro on the grounds of the Stones River National Battlefield Park.
