Remembering Private Christian Keifer, Company A of the Fifteenth Kentucky


Private Christian Keifer was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia. A twenty-one year old farmer, he was 5’2 ½”, with a dark complexion, brown eyes and dark hair. He was wounded at the Battle of Perryville on October 8, 1862 and was discharged on March 9, 1863 in Louisville on a certificate of disability. The surgeon stated that Keifer’s wound in the middle third of the tibia had caused a shortness of one leg. Keifer married George Ann Collins in 1878. He died on March 1, 1884, and is buried in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, outside Simpsonville, Shelby County, Kentucky.
