Remembering Private George W. Sparks, Company A of the Fifteenth Kentucky

George Sparks was born in Shelbyville, Kentucky in 1843. The son of Jonas Sparks and Paulina Postlethwaite, he was the younger brother of Corporal Henry Sparks of Company A. A farmer, he was 5’10”, with a light complexion, gray eyes and dark hair. Private Sparks was discharged February 21, 1863, in Louisville on a certificate of disability based upon heart disease. Sparks married Edmonia Blakemore and had one son, Alexander Sparks.
