John Sayles (no, not that one, the other one), the son of George Sayles and Mary Ann Ryder, was born in Shelbyville, Kentucky in 1844. Sayles was a tinner. Sayles was 5’9”, with a light complexion, gray eyes, and light hair. Private Sayles was discharged December 27, 1861 at Camp Pope, New Haven, Kentucky, on a certificate of disability based upon hypertrophy of the heart and rheumatism. Sayles is buried in Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelby County.
