The Pope Guards Begin Recruiting

From The Louisville Journal, September 10, 1861

NEW COMPANY – Our artistic friend I. B. Webster has been authorized to raise a company for Col. Pope’s Regiment, and will lose no time in effecting an organization. He is a gentleman of taste and a gallant soldier. Captain Webster will call his company the Pope Guards, in honor of Colonel Curran Pope, the commander of the regiment.
